London 2012 Olympics: Iran’s National Committee Threaten to Boycott Games Over ‘Racist’ Logo

Iranian Olympic president Mohammad Aliabadi wrote to the International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge saying the logo was “revolting” because it spelt out “Zion” – a reference to the country’s enemy, Israel.

A spokesman for the IOC said: “We are looking forward to London staging a great Games and all countries being represented there.”

Aliabadi threatened that any neglect of the issue by the IOC “would affect the participation of several countries, especially Iran, which insists on following principles and values.”

On Sunday, the boys arrived at the patch of wasteland on the outskirts of Nagpur before lunch and stayed all day.

On Monday, they came in the late afternoon, straight from school, still wearing their uniform of white short-sleeved shirts and long grey trousers.

They brought their own freestanding wicket because the ground they were playing on was pitted with rubble and way too hard for them to be able to force the two stumps they carried below the surface.

They played with a tennis ball that kicked and reared off the uneven surface with more venom than a Malcolm Marshall bouncer at the WACA.
