  • 29-30 June 2028
  • DePaul University, Chicago, USA + Online

Special Focus & Themes

The Sport & Society Research Network is brought together around a common interest in cultural, political, and economic relationships of sport to society. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network we are defined by our scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by our shared themes and tensions.

The Nineteenth International Conference on Sport & Society calls for research addressing the following annual themes.

  • 2028 Special Focus—Representing Sport: Media, Culture, and Society
  • Theme 1: Sporting Stories, Images, and Public Memory
  • Theme 2: Visibility, Identity, and the Sporting Body
  • Theme 3: Platforms, Audiences, and the Business of Attention
  • Theme 4: Sport, Voice, and Cultural Change
